(Bloomberg) — Former President Donald Trump is mistaken for a 1980s photograph of New Yorker author E. Jean Carroll, who he says is a dare, of his ex-wife Marla Maples during a primary event. Partially unsealed transcript in Carroll’s defamation suit.

The slip-up during his Oct. 19 testimony could be used by Carroll at trial to refute the rape allegations that Trump is not his “type.” The testimony was presented by her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan. Jan. 12 was mentioned in the amended indictment that was made public on Wednesday.
A former advice columnist for Elle magazine, Carol In 2019, she came out publicly, alleging that Trump groped her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s. They sued Trump for defamation after calling him a liar out of the White House. He doubled down in an Oct. 12 post on the reality social platform.
“It’s a scam and a lie, just like the scams that have been done to me for the past seven years, and I’m not supposed to say it. This woman is not my type! Trump said in the post.
But when Trump left office, Kaplan They showed Trump a photo of him with his wife Ivana Trump in 1987, chatting and smiling widely at a black-tie party with Carole and her husband. In the photo, Carroll looks up at Trump and laughs.

When Trump asked Kaplan when he first saw the photo, he first said, “I don’t know the woman,” but later said, “It’s Marla.”
“You mean Marla in the picture here?” Kaplan asked Trump.
“This is Marla, yes,” Trump said. “She’s my wife.”
Trump’s lawyer, Alina Haba, intervened to correct him. “No, that’s Carol,” said Grandma.
“Oh, I see,” Trump replied.
“The person you just pointed to is E. Jean Carroll,” Kaplan said, according to the statement.
Trump married Maples six years after the photo was taken. She gave birth to his daughter, Tiffany Trump.
Haba did not immediately return a call seeking comment Wednesday.
The implied criticism of Carroll’s appearance was one of several comments she made at the center of her 2019 defamation lawsuit against Trump. Carroll also defamed Trump by saying she invented the attack to sell a book and made similar allegations against other men.

During a rally at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the former president repeatedly emphasized that he was not attracted to Carroll. When asked why he had to say his betrayal in such words, he defended his choice of words.
“She’s accusing me of raping an unidentified woman,” Trump said. “It came out of the blue. She’s accusing me of rape – that I raped her, the worst thing you can do, the worst accusation.
Kaplan’s point about Carol not being his type is to “convince her that you didn’t dare her because she wasn’t pretty enough.” he asked Trump. correct?”
“When I say she’s not my type, I mean she’s not a woman I like,” Trump said. “There is no reason for me to be attracted to her. Just me – not even meant to be insulting.
Trump’s second wife, Maples, is not involved. She married him at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan in 1993. They divorced in 1999. Trump married his current wife, Melania Trump, in 2005 and had a son, Barron.
Maples attended Ivana Trump’s funeral with her daughter Tiffany.
