Special Counsel Jack Smith is pushing to question the lawyer about the alleged phone calls to former President Donald Trump as they build evidence that Trump could obstruct the government’s efforts to access classified materials he kept after he left the White House. Sources familiar with the matter told ABC.

The alleged call came on the same day that investigators asked the Trump Organization for surveillance footage from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, even after one of his attorneys testified under oath that the government had complied with subpoenas for the remaining documents in his possession.

The attorney/client privilege does not cover attorneys and clients involved in criminal activity. Much attention has been paid to the behavior of Trump’s lawyers, who lied about Trump’s lies or that all classified documents against Trump had been turned over.
