After America’s latest mass shooting in Alabama, President Biden asked a powerful moral question about gun violence that Republicans couldn’t answer.
According to the White House to PoliticusUSA:
This morning, our nation is grieving once again for at least four Americans who were brutally murdered at a teenage birthday party in Dadeville, Alabama in a busy public park in Louisville. Jill and I are praying for the families of those who were injured and are fighting to save their lives as a result of this weekend’s gun violence.
What happened to our country when children can’t attend birthday parties without fear? When parents have to worry every time their children go out to school, to the cinema or to the park?
Guns are the leading killer of children in America, and the number is increasing – not decreasing.
This is offensive and unacceptable. Americans agree and want lawmakers to act on common-sense gun safety reform. Instead, this past week, Americans have seen national Republican elected leaders side with the NRA in a standoff against dangerous laws that further erode gun safety. Our communities need and deserve better.
I applaud Tennessee Governor Bill Lee for signing an executive order to expand background checks and calling on the Tennessee State House to pass the Red Flags Act. I hope more Republican officials will follow suit.
As always, I stand ready to work on the path to good faith on life-saving federal legislation. It is within Congress’s power to require safe storage of firearms, provide background checks for all gun sales, protect gun manufacturers from liability, and ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines — and it must happen without delay.
Republicans are choosing guns over children’s lives. The one-time Family Values Party has become the right-to-kill group for mass murderers. Republicans want to talk about rights and the Second Amendment after every mass shooting, but what about the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?
American children have the right to go to school, the grocery store, a concert, a movie, or a party without being shot.
America needs to talk about these rights.
It’s because Republicans don’t want to answer the moral questions raised by President Biden.
The gun issue is a loser for the Republicans, because they chose the NRA over the lives of children.
