Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) brought the House Judiciary Committee to Manhattan under the pretense of violent crime hearings, but Democrats backed off the hearings.
In his opening remarks, Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) called out the real point of the hearing:

Nadler, “It’s a shame that Republicans on this committee used violent crime as an excuse to play New York tourist and insult the district attorney.
Jim Jordan tried to capitalize on the suffering of the victims of violence, but his efforts at exploitation were shocking and uncomfortable to watch.
Democrats objected to expert witnesses on gun violence and crime, angering Republicans who complained that the hearing had shifted away from demonizing Bragg to an actual discussion about gun violence and crime:

Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) told Jordan, “Please leave me this comment that this is our sincere desire to find solutions to violent crimes. This is your agenda to get the former president’s appreciation, support and good wishes.

After crime victim witnesses complained that they didn’t feel heard, Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) felt sorry for them and told them they were being lied to.

The trial did not get the public attention that Jim Jordan and Donald Trump had hoped for. The original coverage was zero. Even Newsmax was popping in and out to show just a few minutes.

The hearing is not helping Trump, but it is showing the American people that the only skill Jim Jordan has is to waste taxpayer money trying to defend Donald Trump.
Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee have shown no interest in exploring any legislative solutions that might reduce crime in a hearing on alleged violent crime.
No one believes this plan against Jordan and Trump because it is a coincidence that the committee is in Manhattan having a hearing to attack the district attorney who accidentally impeached Donald Trump.
Jordan apparently didn’t think Judiciary Committee Democrats would show up for the hearings, but they did, and the publicity stunt turned into yet another GOP impeachment.
