A new NBC News poll finds that 68 percent of Republican voters still support Trump after he was indicted on 34 felony charges in Manhattan.
On NBC News:
Sixty-eight percent of GOP primary voters agree with the statement that the investigations into Trump are politically motivated and designed to prevent him from becoming president again, and should support their opponents now.
That’s compared to 26% who agree with the opposite statement — that it’s important to nominate a different candidate who won’t be disorganized and will focus solely on defeating Biden in the general election.
Yet among all voters — not just Republicans — 52% believe Trump is on the same level as those accused of doing what he did when he was impeached in New York. Another 43% disagree and say he is being unfairly targeted.

The same NBC News poll found Trump leading DeSantis 46%-31% in the Republican presidential primary. Mike Pence is third with 6% and all candidates have 3% or less support. DeSantis needs nearly every vote from the rest of the field to go to him to have any chance of holding Trump.
The big number in the poll that is worth noting is the 52%-43% split on the question of whether Trump is seen as a good person. This number may reflect the breakdown of the Biden/Trump rematch more than any other data.
The Republicans seem like the party of crime, and their voters seem to be on a different planet than the rest of the 2024 voters.
