These advisers, legislators and operatives either knew DeSantis personally or worked for him. Now, some are working to re-elect Trump and bring intimate knowledge of the operations of DeSantis, who has also made him Trump’s 2024 primary challenger. Just as importantly, some Team-DeSantis-turned-Team-Trump stalwarts have discussed how best to keep the former president at bay with DeSantis, assuring Trump that the Florida governor is exceptionally “reliable” and “passionate.” It’s easy to get in his head, two sources who have spoken to Trump told Rolling Stone.

The person continued, “The nature of the conversation between the people who worked for Ron was very frequent: ‘Okay, how do we destroy this guy?’ Not at the usual level for people who hold grudges against abusive bosses. It’s purer hatred than that… People who traveled with Ron every day, worked closely with him over the years joke to this day that it was an open question whether Ron knew their name or not. … And it’s just the beginning.”
