A woman has been charged with battery on an elected official after she allegedly threw a glass of wine at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
According to the police report, “Deputy Getz Chambers and another woman were cursing at him and his family.” “He believed that both women recognized him as a representative of the United States.”
….
“Blaine Odom was talking to Rep. Getz and they saw Selena Chambers swearing loudly. Chambers was holding a drink in her right hand. Chambers tossed the container into the air, and the liquid from the drink landed on the right shoulder of Agents Gaetz and Odom.” According to the police report.
Selena Chambers admits she had been drinking, but spilled it on Getz.
It’s easy to understand why someone would get mad at Matt Gaetz to the point of immediately wanting to throw a glass of wine at him, but there are rules against throwing random people, no matter how big the drop. As and one thinks that they can understand.
In other words, don’t throw wine at Matt Gaetz.
This is not the first time Getz has been drinking. The same thing happened in 2019.
Public figures who imitate bad behavior only serve to promote bad behavior. Republicans have become so divisive, their behavior brings out the worst in everyone around them. If the American people want to return to civility, they must expect our elected officials to behave with respect.
No one deserves to have their drink thrown at them, but the old adage that you get back what you put out there applies to those who build their reputation on divisive politics.
