Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a member of the House Oversight Committee, explained why special counsel Jack Smith is considering conspiracy charges against Trump.

On MSNBC’s Inside Line with Jane Psacki, Psacki asked Rep. Raskin if Jack Smith could consider sedition charges against Trump.
Ruskin replied:
Absolutely. I mean, this is not a defense. If you are accused of plotting to overthrow the government or to overthrow the US government, this is what conspiracy means: it is not a defense to say that someone else told me to do it or that someone else was involved in the plot. Trump could be part of the Proudest Men or Oath Keepers conspiracy, he could be involved in a ring conspiracy that overlaps with the conspiracy.
We don’t have a justice system. As I said in the January six hearing; I hope the foot soldiers and veterans at the bottom go to jail and the leaders at the top get a free pass to continue their violent attacks on democracy. Institutions. Therefore, we don’t have many justices here, the Department of Justice has done a lot of reparative work. More than 1000 arrests, hundreds of sentences have been sentenced, more than 12 people have been sentenced for violence. Sera completely refutes the claims that, well, how could this be a rebellion if no one was trying to overthrow the government. Well, now, you have the answer, more than 12 people have been convicted of that
. And Donald Trump was actually impeached by 232 votes in the House for inciting a rebellion against the union. And 57 out of 100 senators agreed that the men’s direction inspired the union. We haven’t reached the magic two-thirds number to impeach the president. However, we have simultaneous majorities of both houses of Congress declaring that that is exactly what he did as a matter of constitutional fact.
It is publicly known that Jack Smith is investigating Trump for 1/6 crimes. Smith has as much evidence as he has gathered. Unless the special counsel finds witnesses or contacts in his position, it seems unlikely that Trump will be convicted of conspiracy.
The conspiracy charges will destroy Trump’s 2024 hopes and make the Republican Party look more like a domestic terror cell than a political party.
