in addition Kindly link, by National assessment“corner” to the My Criticism of Michael Lind’s Ignorant Attempt to Discredit the Minimum Wage ActGeorge Leaf said such a law was immoral. I commend George for his communication and applaud his own criticism of Lynn.
But I did something I never do and that is I looked at the comments. I stumbled upon a head scratcher from “Franklin Pierce” in the comments section of George’s post:
You determine your self-worth by what you are willing to accept as a salary, not what is offered.
Corporations pay you less than they can, which means the government values your labor more than a corporation.
This opinion comes from many who believe that libertarians, classical liberals, and free-market conservatives are champions or detractors of that prevalent breed of thought process. Monsters.
As I read the “Franklin Pierce” comment, I asked myself (without coming up with a satisfactory answer).what This guy can. could be. Are you thinking?!?! How does he not see that when a private employer spends its own money to hire workers and enact a minimum wage law, when legislators simply vote and spend their own money to order third parties – here employers – not to pay less than the minimum hourly wage that these legislators decide to set?’
By “Franklin Pierce” logic, if you want to pay the teenager next door $20, I’ll expose myself to value the teenager’s labor more than you would if I had my gun loose. Your head, and I’ll shoot you if you offer to pay this teenager for less than $30.
How can a person who has successfully completed class one fail to see that the ‘value statement’ that is spent on goodwill marketing is not the same as the ‘value statement’ made by a third party. Did he enter into a voluntary transaction with only the threat of violence and nothing of his own?
Here’s a serious question: What does the above quote from “Franklin Pierce” tell us about the priorities and mindsets of libertarians, classical liberals, and free-market conservatives who reject the analysis and policy positions of those who oppose the govt of human affairs?
