Stephanie Slade contrasts classical liberalism and free-market conservatism with authoritarianism versus national conservatism (“The rise of the right-wing” June 2023) but mistakenly conceded to NatCons his accusation that America was deindustrialized.
Despite persistent opinions to the contrary, the United States emphatically has is not Deindustrialization.
Industrial capacity in the United States has increased steadily over the past few decades and reached an all-time high in December 2016. Despite covid, it has remained at that level ever since. It is just one percent below the all-time high in April 2023.. So it’s no surprise. American industrial Production In September 2018, it reached its highest level in the past few decades. Although it fell a bit during the covid season, it has recovered well. Today it is also only one percent of its all-time high..
Like the progressives – their closest relatives – the NatCons are not only allergic to economic thought, but also ignorant of basic economic facts.
